Every day, Hush Brasseries tweet about the takeaway lunch available from their St Paul’s branch for a fiver. Every Friday, the lunch is BLA (brioche, lobster and avocado, which could only be more tempting if the B stood for bacon) with potato salad. Several Fridays on the temptation gets too much, so I cave and cycle the half hour round trip to get my hands on it. Luckily, it wasn’t as amazing as it sounds, so I can go back to more local hunts for fancy lunches, but it’s a shame they messed it up; with a bit of seasoning and salad the filling would have been brilliant, and the potato salad was decent. The dry, firm roll though, was totally unacceptable, and offensive to the definition of brioche. It tasted like the bottom of a three-day-old Greggs iced bun. Maybe it was an off day? And maybe the other options don’t involve the same sad bake, so if you’re nearby maybe give that a try instead. But I will probably never forgive them for selling me that bread.
